Our “topsy-turvy” world

There are times when a change of circumstances is either unpleasant or unwelcome to accept. Such circumstances are commonly referred to as trials or storms of life. And they make us feel discouraged, defeated, or even angry at times.  Perhaps some of the questions that coms to mind are, “why is this happening to me?” Or, “I don’t deserve this!.” Or, “what can I do?” Or, “is there any hope for me?” These may be legitimate questions people facing unusual circumstances may ask. However, as Christians, one should never doubt God or abandon faith in the Almighty. The believer in […]

God Is Without Limitations!

The God of heaven of whom the Scriptures declare: “It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8). This statement has been proven over and over to be absolutely true. Volumes have been written on the trustworthiness of Almighty God. Christians, and even non-christians, have testified to this divine fact.  Firstly, we must always keep in mind God will always be God, in the sense that He cannot change His mind. He remains absolutely true to His word. What He says He […]

Another Christmas Comes!

At this time of the year, Christians will once again celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a very special occasion, and the Bible tells us what we need to know about this spectacular event; unlike anything else.  The prophet Isaiah predicted “The First Advent” of Christ in this way. In pointing to Jesus Christ, the prophet writes: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). Of course, the virgin was Mary the mother of Jesus. The name Immanuel, means God-with-us. Isaiah also writes: “For to us a child is born, to us […]

Praise the Lord!

The Book of Psalms has been called the “Book of Praises.” The 150th Psalm is the summation of God’s praise. It begins with “Praise the LORD,” and ends with “Praise the LORD.” The word ‘praise’ means to express admiration, approval, or heartfelt gratitude to some-one.  The theme of Psalms 146 through Psalm 150 is about praise to God. All five psalms begin and end with the words “Praise the LORD.” Praise represents our commitment, dedication and devotion to Almighty God. Some of us will recall the opening lines of a popular hymn that reads, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, […]

“Be Thankful!”

Thanksgiving is the most beautiful of words. It seems to create in us the readiness to express sincere  and heartfelt appreciation for kindness shown and received.  “Thanksgiving Day” has a special place in the hearts and minds of Americans, generally. The occasion is observed and celebrated as families gather together to eat and enjoy a special ‘thanksgiving meal,’ consisting of roasted turkey with the stuffing (and trimmings), mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberries, and pumpkin or apple pie and eggnog for dessert.  The tradition goes back to 1941 when then President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating the fourth Thursday in November […]

“Living Forever Is Possible!”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, life expectancy at birth in the United States is as follows. Males: 73.5 years, and Females: 79.3 years. This is as far as human life as we know it is concerned. However, God freely offers ‘another’ kind of life, which is “eternal life.” And it is available free to all humans. A person can either accept it or reject it. Eternal life means exactly what it says, that is, to live forever.  Those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior are assured of having eternal life. The Bible says, “God gave us eternal […]

“Pray, Pray, Pray, and Pray!”

When we hear the word prayer, for many of us, we automatically think that it means prayer to God. And in most cases it does. For the Christian, prayer is essentially an integral part of having faith in Almighty God as our heavenly Father.   Here is an excerpt from the Sermon Notes by the late Dr Charles Stanley under the topic: Standing Tall And Strong Through Prayer. “Prayer is powerful. It allows us to cast our burdens on God and receive guidance and provision from Him. All too often, however, we take this privilege for granted. Instead of turning to […]

“The Vicissitudes of Life”

The word vicissitude is a big word and hardly used, but its meaning is very applicable to life. It simply means a change in circumstances or fortune; typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant.” Another explanation is “changes that take place at various times in the life of an individual including situations when conditions become worse.” We have also heard of life’s “ups and downs,” which means a succession of both good and bad experiences. The question then becomes: How should a Christian respond when confronted to the inevitable vicissitudes of life? The answer(s) can be found in God’s Word — the Bible or the […]
