The Bible – A Holy Book

The Bible is a “God Book.” It is the most widely circulated book in the world and is consistently a best-seller. The following excerpt was obtained from from the Guinness World Records website, which speaks for itself. “Although it is impossible to obtain exact figures, there is little doubt that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book. A survey by the Bible Society concluded that around 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion.” “By the end of 1995, combined global sales of […]

The Believer’s Forerunner

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:19.20). One of the many great and exciting things about the christian life is “hope.” Hope is defined as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.“ Hope always looks forward with expectation – never backward. Here the scripture is telling us that hope is our “sure and steadfast anchor of […]

The 150th Psalm

The 150th Psalm is a psalm of “total praise” to the sovereign God of heaven. The word praise means to express admiration, approval, or heartfelt gratitude to some one. The theme of the last five psalms is much about praise to God. All five psalms begin and end with the words “Praise the LORD.” Praise represents our dedication and devotion to Almighty God. God is most worthy of praise from His people. Psalm 147:1 clearly states, “Praise the LORD; for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is fitting” This wonderful all-encompassing […]

Sovereignty of God

Sovereignty means unlimited power and authority. Whereas the Bible presents much about the Sovereignty of God, yet there is no attempt in the scriptures to prove God’s existence. The very first words in all scripture begins, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Since the Sovereign God is the divine author of the Bible, it means that “All scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).  One of the Hebrew names or titles for God is “El Elyon,” which means “God Most High.” […]

Sovereign Grace

We are now living the “dispensation of grace” which began after the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, which will continue until His second advent. In his letter to Titus, the Apostle Paul wrote, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passion, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives” (Titus 2:11,12). A popular definition of grace is “God’s unmerited favor.” Someone has come up with the following acronym “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.” Grace is also explained as “the goodness and loving kindness of God, […]

Sorrow

The dictionary defines “sorrow” as a feeling of deep distress caused by loss, disappointment or other misfortune. This is exemplified with the passing of a relative, someone special, an acquaintance, or an associate. The words sorrow and sorrowful appear several times in the Bible. Sorrow is also a key element when it comes to the christian and his or her attitude toward sin in his or her lifestyle. There is also “godly sorrow” of which the Apostle Paul refers to in his letter to the Corinthians. He writes, “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; […]

Sin Will Find You Out

For many today, it would seem that there is no such thing as “sin.” For others, it is just a social problem here and there. Sin is very real to the extent that it brought God’s condemnation on the entire human race. As human beings, we are not only sinners by nature (how we were born) but we are also sinners by practice. King David said, “I was brought forth [born] in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceive me” (Psalm 51:5). This means that from the point of conception, man has the sin nature.  Sin is described  as “an […]

Self-Examination

The Bible says to the christian, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you fail to meet the test” (2 Corinthians 13:5). The Apostle Paul wrote this in his letter to the Corinthian church. It was applicable then and is applicable today. To examine oneself is to examine our desires, motives, words, and actions. How do we measure up here? Let us remember that words and actions can have dire and lasting consequences. The point of this exhortation is to […]

Running Well

The christian life is likened to a race that begins on earth and ends in heaven. There are christians who have not really “ran well.” Perhaps lukewarmness, indifference, complacency, may have crept into their lives. We must be mindful that we are living in the “last days” where love and obedience to God have waned and become practically none-existent for some. Obviously, the Galatians had started off well in their endeavors and enthusiasm about the christian life. But, alas, something happened. In his letter to them, the apostle Paul pointed out, “You were running well, who hindered you from obeying […]

Revival

Revival is that the Holy Spirit comes down upon a number of people together, upon a whole church, upon a number of churches, districts, or perhaps a whole country. That is what is meant by revival.  And the effect of that is that they immediately become aware of His presence and of His power in a manner that they have never known before. I am talking about Christian people, about church members gathered together as they have done so many times before. Suddenly they are aware of His presence, they are aware of the majesty and the awe of God. […]
