My Dad — a Tribute

There are many wonderful reasons why I believe that a tribute is absolutely fitting for my dear father. In preparation to write this tribute, I thought of several “bold” or “catchy” headings such as “My Dad—a true Christian,” “My Dad—a One-of-a-kind,” “My Dad—a real Gentleman,” and “My Dad—what a Man!” However, knowing that my father wouldn’t want these accolades, I believe he would suggest making the heading simply “My Dad—a Tribute.” My dad, Eglon Cutberth Daniels was born January 19, 1904 and passed away at age 87. He was one of twelve siblings. I am one of three siblings—a sister […]

All We Like Sheep . . .

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all..” (Isaiah 53:6). This is a biblical declaration of the rebellious nature and state of mankind. We have all fallen. We have all sinned. We have all gone our own separate ways like sheep without a shepherd, We have all been led by Satan, the arch-enemy of our souls. We have all missed the mark and fallen short of God’s glory.  Fallen man needed a Savior who would free him from the bondage of sin and […]

Can man be “Justified” with God?

This is the age-old question that Bildad asked Job. The answer to this all-important question is, “It is God who justifies.” (Romans 8:33). The context is found in Job 25:4-6 ESV. “How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of a woman be pure? Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes; how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!”  The word justification in the Bible means that a person who trusts Jesus Christ as Savior, is forgiven of […]

Church Leadership

The church is not a building. The church is the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. The holy Scriptures make that clear. The church is the body of professed believers in Jesus Christ, and who exist under different names around the world. Christ is exalted as the Head of the Church, “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness or him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:22,23). The church, therefore, belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ and not to any church leader. Though some […]

The Almighty and mortal man

The word mortal means “subject to death.” Human beings are mortal as they will die and cannot live forever. Death is inevitable for all mankind. God is immortal, meaning “not subject to death” — never dying. The words eternal and everlasting mean the same. And pertains only to God Almighty, the Creator of the universe. Isaiah 40:28 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, […]

When Is Enough, Enough?

When is enough, enough is a question some Church leaders must ask themselves. Religion is a very lucrative business these days. Some Church pastors have made themselves extremely wealthy from the tithes and offerings that Church members give. In some cases, as much as tens of millions of dollars. Perhaps these religious leaders’ net worth is comparable to what some CEOs in corporate America make.  In addition to the ongoing money they take, some pastors own private planes, Rolls Royces and other expensive motor cars, yachts, multi-million dollar homes or mansions, and the list goes on ad infinitum. It is […]

The need for God’s guidance

Each of us needs guidance. No one should ignore the need for guidance. Broadly speaking, guidance means giving direction, instruction, and advice for growth and development. Guidance is usually provided by a counsellor, advisor, or a person in authority. Christians look to God and the Scriptures for guidance. Isaiah 58:11 says, “And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” This text tells us about God’s commitment to guide His people and the results of […]

Suffer As A Christian!

“Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.” (1 Peter 4:16).  Absolutely no doubt, the Lord Jesus Christ  suffered. Jesus is the Christian’s greatest example since He suffered immensely. Shouldn’t we also suffer? Yes. According to the text suffering is a God-glorifying experience and nothing to be ashamed of. When the apostles were beaten and commanded not to speak in the name of Jesus, the Scripture says, “they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.” (Acts 5:41,42). The apostles were even more determined […]

Jesus Makes The Difference

In his letter to the Corinthian Christians, the apostle Paul makes a statement that every Christian should carefully note and put in practice. He writes, “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.” (1 Corinthians 6:12).  Taken in context, Paul tells the Corinthians “do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9). And he lists the sinful behaviors and practices of those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior with special reference to the “sexually immoral,”  (Vs. 9 […]

Why Be A Christian?

Consider the evil, wickedness, immorality, corruption, lawlessness, hatred, and injustice in the world. And things will not get better. This is exactly what has happened since Adam, the first man God created sinned. The Bible says, “Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12).  As a result, “Evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (2 Timothy 3:13). No one should be surprised. Jesus said, “Many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false […]
