My Lord and My God

After His resurrection, the Lord Jesus appeared to His disciples, but Thomas was not present. Jesus then showed them His hands and His side. The Scripture says, “Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. And Jesus said to them again “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:20-22). Here, the risen Lord is breathing on those disciples and imparting to them the Holy Spirit. On another occasion, eight days later, the […]

Why Not Allow God?

Christians should never have so much confidence in themselves to feel they don’t need God’s guidance and help in everything pertaining to life. Perhaps there is a need to consider who God is, His sovereignty, His self-existence, His attributes, His promises, and His concern for His children. History shows believers who assume they are fully capable of doing things on their own without God’s intervention, have discovered it was not as easy as previously thought. The apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through [Christ] who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Through Christ is the key. Also, Jesus said, “For apart from me you can […]

The Reality of Heaven

The Bible begins with this statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Observe: heavens (plural) and earth (singular).  It would seem that God created more than one heaven. Genesis 2:1 says, “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.” Also, Genesis 2:4 “These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.” These Scriptures are in agreement that God created more than one heaven.  For the purpose of this writing, we are going to reference the apostle Paul’s vision where he had a supernatural experience in which he was “caught […]

The Greatness of God Almighty!

The Bible starts with God. And He is the God of all Scripture. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God created the universe from nothing. Hebrews 11:3: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”  The Bible reveals much about the greatness, power, and wisdom of God; whose ways are past finding out because He alone is perfect, self-existent. And from everlasting to everlasting He is God. Isaiah 40:21,22 Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has […]

The Omnipotent God

To say God is omnipotent means God has unlimited power. “Omni” means all and “potent” means power. God is Almighty and all-powerful. God is unique in this divine attribute because it cannot be truly applied to any mortal man, including scientists or philosophers. No human, irrespective of their social, secular or religious position in life has unlimited power. Only God could speak the universe into existence. “For He spoke and it came to be” (Psalm 33:9). The very first statement in all Scripture is about God and His omnipotence. Creation of the universe is just one example of God’s omnipotence. “In the beginning, God created […]

JESUS IS LORD

Jesus is often referred to as Lord in the Scriptures. It is a title that is most fitting for our Savior Jesus Christ. Knowing Jesus Christ as Savior involves the recognition of His Lordship in our lives. This means Jesus must have complete control of the believer’s entire life—not part or portion thereof.  In trusting Jesus as Savior, we trust Him as Lord also. Jesus acknowledges His Lordship when He said to His disciples, “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.” (John 13:13). Jesus also declares of Himself “All authority in heaven and on earth is given […]

Holding Fast in our Confidence

One of the many great and wonderful things about being believers in the Lord Jesus Christ is that we are citizens of heaven and also members of the house or household of God (Ephesians 2:19). The Bible says, “But Christ is faithful over God’s house as a Son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope” (Hebrews 3:6).  God’s house means all Christians who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior. Hence, the text says “we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.” Salvation comes into […]

God works through prayer

British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) said, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” This is an accurate statement about prayer. God works through prayer. And prayer works with God.  Heartfelt prayer means complete reliance on the God of the Scriptures who says, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). God is able to exceed our prayer requests in ways we could not imagine. Someone said “little prayer, little blessing; much prayer, much blessing.” Prayer is all […]

What Happened To You?

“You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?” (Galatians 5:7). The Galatians, like some Christians today, were running well, but something hindered them from obeying the truth. No believer can be spiritually successful in living the Christian life if he or she ceases to obey the truth of God’s word.  It is very difficult to fully grasp why some Christians who started off well in their faith and then decided to “drop out of the race.” What could the reasons be? Maybe there’s lack of courage or confidence to take a stand for things most certainly believed among Christians? Or, have they (conveniently) […]

Knowing Jesus vs knowing about Jesus

There is a very huge difference between knowing someone and knowing about someone. To know someone is to have a relationship with that person. On the other hand, knowing about someone means you have only seen, heard, spoken to, or read about the person but never had a personal experience with that person. To know Jesus Christ is to accept Him as your personal Savior and Lord of your life. The Bible says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Note: the text […]
