Pray; Always Pray

Prayer is foundational to the Christian life. And the Scriptures have much to say about prayer. I, like many other believers, can attest to the significance of prayer in everyday living. Prayer means speaking with our heavenly Father, therefore our failure to pray means we are not on “speaking terms” with Him. God created prayer as the means of communicating with Him. The Lord Jesus told a parable to His disciples “to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to lose heart” (Luke 18:1). Note these words “ought always to pray.” Prayer is about relationship and communication with Almighty God. […]

The Jesus of the Bible

Do you know the Jesus of the Bible? Or perhaps do you know about the Jesus of the Bible? There is a significant difference here. Firstly, to know the Jesus of the Bible is to receive Him as your personal Savior and have a relationship with Him. Secondly, after trusting Jesus as your Savior you will be able to know about Jesus from the Scriptures. There is a song many of us used to sing at Church services that goes: “Everybody ought to know, Everybody ought to know, Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. He’s the Lily of the Valley, He’s […]

How well are you running?

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1,2). These verses seem to summarize the worship and walk of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Christian life is referred to as “the race.” And the race constitutes a life of faith, discipline, and endurance. Jesus Christ is our perfect and greatest example in living the Christian life. He victoriously […]

This Same Jesus . . .

“And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, ”Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10,11). This is a most significant portion of holy Scripture, because it is the promise of Jesus Christ’s return or second advent. Note: This Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” This promise […]

How to live by Faith

What is the meaning of faith? The Holy Scriptures gives us an explanation. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. And without faith it is impossible to please [God].”  (Hebrews 11:1,2,6). Hebrews chapter 11 is considered as the Biblical “hall of faith,” because it sets forth the superior way of faith.  Christian living is wholly based on faith; the Lord Jesus Christ being the perfect example, and the “founder and perfecter of our faith.” The Bible says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a […]

“It is finished!”

“It is finished” was the loud triumphant cry of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ when He died on the Cross. These were the last words Jesus uttered before He died.  The Bible tells us, “After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John […]

Praise the LORD

Praise is the offering of grateful homage and adoration in word oW song to God Almighty. The Westminster Shorter Catechism states:  “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” This is supported in Proverbs 16:4, which states, “The LORD has made everything for its purpose” (that is, His glory). Psalm 86:9 states, “All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O LORD.” God desires praises from His people and He is worthy and deserving of them. Therefore, we have good reasons to praise God. With praise as its theme, Psalm 150 concludes the book of Psalms. Each of […]

Preach the Word!

The apostle Paul instructed Timothy to preach the Word of God. He said, “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into […]

“I am your God!”

The God of the Bible says “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous righthand.”  (Isaiah 41:10). This is a wonderful assurance from God to His people. You and I need to be reminded about this every day. Many of us may be concerned about uncertainties in life. Fear and anxiety seem to have us in its grip. We must not allow fear, worry, and anxiety to control our lives. God requires that we fully trust Him, hence he […]

Political correctness

It is most amazing how things and times have changed—radically in some instances. And mostly not for the better but for the worse. Specifically, people who once stood for decency and morality have “caved” mainly because of political pressure and to gain political favor. Even those who stood firm in their faith and beliefs changed for political expediency. Perhaps the intent is either to appease or avoid offense to certain groups or organizations.  Many seem to forget the principles on which our great country was built. Our constitution guarantees freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of information, etc. These […]
