“Opportunity”

The word opportunity is a noun, which the dictionary defines as “a set of circumstances that make it possible to do something.” The age-old proverb says, “opportunity knocks only once.” This implies that if one misses an opportunity that comes, it should be grasped because another opportunity like that may not come.  For many people, opportunity presents a chance or an occasion to obtain something they’ve been yearning for, or doing something they’ve been thinking of accomplishing for some time. Someone said, “Three things that never come back; the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost opportunity.” So then, […]

Why should I believe God?

God is most trustworthy. God has made it known to the world: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8,9). Think of the unfathomable distance between heaven and earth. And yet God uses this  distance between His thoughts and ways in comparison to our thoughts and ways. His thoughts and ways are that much higher than ours. This is worth pondering. And God goes on to declare: “So shall my word […]

“Hallelujah for the Cross!”

This blog is appropriately titled: “Hallelujah for the Cross’” The reason is that the cross speaks vividly of the suffering, death, and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Chris, the Son of God, who died on the cross for the complete forgiveness of mankind’s sins. This was God’s intent and only righteous way for sinful man to be reconciled to God.   Horatius Bonar (1808-1889), the writer of the hymn; “Hallelujah for the Cross,” knew about the significance of the shed blood and death of Jesus Christ. This is clearly reflected in his hymn  quoted here:  “The cross, it standeth fast— Hallelujah, hallelujah! Defying every […]

“Never, Never, Never!”

We have heard it said; “Never say never.” This is absolutely true, and for good reason because  anything can happen at any time, to anyone in any place, and in any situation.  For the Christian, it is only by the wisdom, grace, and mercy of Almighty God something will be prevented from actually taking place. Here is a noteworthy example. The Apostle Peter denied the Lord Jesus Christ three times. It started  just after Jesus had instituted “The Lord’s Supper.”  Jesus and His disciples, including Peter, went out to the Mount of Olives. The Bible says, “And Jesus said to them, “You will […]

Need Something Different? Why Not Try God?

The very first four words of the Holy Bible says: “In the beginning God . . . .” (Genesis 1:1). The Bible is God’s divine Word to man. No other book can compare. “The Bible begins with God, not with philosophical arguments for His existence” (C.I. Scofield, D.D.). William MacDonald writes: “These first four words of the Bible form the foundation for faith. Believe these words, and you can believe all that follows in the Bible. The divine record assumes the existence of God rather than seeking to prove it. The Bible has a special name for those who choose to deny the fact […]

“Your Will be done, on earth . . . “

The prayer that the Lord Jesus taught His disciples, referred to as “The Lord’s Prayer,” says in part, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Jesus also stipulated this about prayer: “for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matt 6:8). Christians should always use the prayer that the Lord taught His disciples as a “model prayer,” which it is, because it serves instruction about praying; telling us things to keep in mind when we pray.  First and foremost, prayer is done exclusively to God. That’s why we start with “Our Father (whose abode is) in heaven” (Matt. 6:9). […]

Our “topsy-turvy” world

There are times when a change of circumstances is either unpleasant or unwelcome to accept. Such circumstances are commonly referred to as trials or storms of life. And they make us feel discouraged, defeated, or even angry at times.  Perhaps some of the questions that coms to mind are, “why is this happening to me?” Or, “I don’t deserve this!.” Or, “what can I do?” Or, “is there any hope for me?” These may be legitimate questions people facing unusual circumstances may ask. However, as Christians, one should never doubt God or abandon faith in the Almighty. The believer in […]

God Is Without Limitations!

The God of heaven of whom the Scriptures declare: “It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8). This statement has been proven over and over to be absolutely true. Volumes have been written on the trustworthiness of Almighty God. Christians, and even non-christians, have testified to this divine fact.  Firstly, we must always keep in mind God will always be God, in the sense that He cannot change His mind. He remains absolutely true to His word. What He says He […]

Another Christmas Comes!

At this time of the year, Christians will once again celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a very special occasion, and the Bible tells us what we need to know about this spectacular event; unlike anything else.  The prophet Isaiah predicted “The First Advent” of Christ in this way. In pointing to Jesus Christ, the prophet writes: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). Of course, the virgin was Mary the mother of Jesus. The name Immanuel, means God-with-us. Isaiah also writes: “For to us a child is born, to us […]
