Opportunity

Opportunity refers to a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. The age-old proverb says, “Opportunity knocks only once.” Properly applied, means an opportunity that, if grasp, would definitely give the individual only one chance to do something that would bring fulfillment or yield “super” benefits. Take for example when a prize can be yours if you purchase the winning ticket. If the winner did not embrace the opportunity to buy that ticket, the prize would not be theirs. Some one said, “Three things that never come back; the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost […]

One Thing!

“One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. To behold the beauty of the LORD; And to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4). This Psalm is a declaration of King David’s triumphant faith and love for God. David had pared down his life to just one point, “One thing I have desired of the LORD.” How does this “concept” apply to you and me? Like David, could one of our top priorities in life is to go to the house […]

New heavens and new earth

John writes, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea. 2) I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2). It appears that after the rapture, the current heavens and earth will be done away and replaced by “new heavens and a new earth.” It seems obvious that there has to be a new earth because Adam and Eve disobeyed God thereby introducing […]

Man’s Responsibility

John 15:22 “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.”  As often as you hear the Word preached and reject it, as often as you are warned, and stifle the voice of your conscience, as often as you are made to tremble, and yet say, “Go Your way for this time, when I have a more convenient season, I will send for You,” (ref?) Jesus Christ came for the specific purpose to suffer and die for sinful mankind, but He is coming […]

Life

As christians, if I were to ask you, “What does life mean to you” or “What is life all about?” or “What is living?” How would you respond? These are important questions for all of us as it means a clear distinction between believers in Jesus Christ and non-believers.  In Philippians 1:21, the Apostle Paul declares: “For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” This is a tremendous statement, and cannot be treated lightly. This should be the center-piece of every christian’s life. You may say, this applies only to Paul. Absolutely in not. This applies […]

Joy

Joy is just a three-letter word and yet it speaks volumes, especially to Christians. The Lord Jesus Christ is the source of the christian’s joy, and He is the perfect example of joy Himself. Consider what the Bible says concerning His imminent death on the cross. “Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of God” (Hebrews 12:2).   Joy means a good feeling of great pleasure and delight, irrespective of the outcome or circumstance. There is a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is the […]

Jesus Is Coming Back

The greatest event yet to take place is the coming back of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the greatest hope and anticipation of “born-again” christians worldwide. This event is mentioned numerous times in the Holy Scriptures. R. A. Torrey, evangelist, pastor, and writer, wrote the following: “The second coming of Christ is said to be mentioned three hundred and eighteen times in the two-hundred and sixty chapters of  the New Testament, and “it occupies one in every twenty-five verses” from Matthew to Revelation” (R. A. Torrey, What the Bible Teaches, Updated Edition, P. 230, Whitaker House, Publisher). Absolutely no […]

In Remembrance of Me

The Lord’s Supper or Communion as it is also called is an “ordinance” (or sacrament) given to Church by the Lord Jesus Christ. In his letter to the Corinthian believers, the Apostle Paul wrote: “I received from the Lord that I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He brook it and said, “Take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup […]

Idols

The definition of an idol, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a representation or symbol of an object of worship; broadly: a false god.” Therefore, anything that takes the place of the one and only true and living God, is an idol. The scriptures make the first allusion to idolatry when “Rachel (Jacob’s wife) stole her father’s household gods” (Genesis 31:19).  An idol can be a variety of “secular” things—even things that appear “harmless.” For example, under the so-called “power of nature,” there are those who worship rivers, lakes, mountains, trees, the sun, moon and stars. Others worship money, possessions, personal […]

I Was Glad

King David wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the house of the LORD” (Psalm 122:1). In these meaningful words, David expressed his joy of going to the House of the LORD (the Tabernacle). Even before he got there, he made it known. Notice what he said, “I was glad when they said to me …” David certainly did not hide his excitement. Shouldn’t that be a wonderful encouragement for us to be excited about going to the house of the Lord. This is not the only time that David expressed his zeal for […]
