“Death, Burial, Resurrection”

In his letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul wrote: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4 NIV).  Paul regarded his message as of first importance. These historical facts of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection are absolutely fundamental to the Christian faith. Paul let it be known that these facts are not according to him, but rather according to God’s Word; hence he adds according to the Scriptures. The […]

The Eternal God

The God of the Bible, and as the Creator of the universe, have always existed. God existed before everything. And He brought everything into existence. He is past, present, and future.    God is “self-existent” because He doesn’t owe His existence to anyone or anything  Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I say to them?” God answered, “I AM WHOM I AM.” “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me […]

“The Sovereign God!”

Sovereignty means unlimited power and authority.  Whereas the Bible presents much about the Sovereignty of God, yet there is no attempt in the Holy Scriptures to prove God’s existence. The first words in all Scripture reads, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).  God is  the divine author of the Bible, where it is stated that “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17). One of the Hebrew names or titles for God […]

“One Thing”

King David’s triumphant faith and love for God, no doubt prompted him to declare these beautiful words: “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4).  David had adjusted his life to one top priority.  He states, “One thing I have desired of the LORD.”  How does this “concept” apply to you and me, today?  Like David, could one of our top priorities in life is to go to […]

“Fear not . . . . be not dismayed!”

} “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). This is a most interesting and tremendous statement and promise from God Almighty. Consider how it begins. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”  Interestingly, before His actual promise, God’s intent is to get our attention to Himself and what He would have us to know. His use of the personal pronouns “I” and “you” are very important in that He is […]

“Opportunity”

The word opportunity is a noun, which the dictionary defines as “a set of circumstances that make it possible to do something.” The age-old proverb says, “opportunity knocks only once.” This implies that if one misses an opportunity that comes, it should be grasped because another opportunity like that may not come.  For many people, opportunity presents a chance or an occasion to obtain something they’ve been yearning for, or doing something they’ve been thinking of accomplishing for some time. Someone said, “Three things that never come back; the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost opportunity.” So then, […]

Why should I believe God?

God is most trustworthy. God has made it known to the world: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8,9). Think of the unfathomable distance between heaven and earth. And yet God uses this  distance between His thoughts and ways in comparison to our thoughts and ways. His thoughts and ways are that much higher than ours. This is worth pondering. And God goes on to declare: “So shall my word […]

“Hallelujah for the Cross!”

This blog is appropriately titled: “Hallelujah for the Cross’” The reason is that the cross speaks vividly of the suffering, death, and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Chris, the Son of God, who died on the cross for the complete forgiveness of mankind’s sins. This was God’s intent and only righteous way for sinful man to be reconciled to God.   Horatius Bonar (1808-1889), the writer of the hymn; “Hallelujah for the Cross,” knew about the significance of the shed blood and death of Jesus Christ. This is clearly reflected in his hymn  quoted here:  “The cross, it standeth fast— Hallelujah, hallelujah! Defying every […]

“Never, Never, Never!”

We have heard it said; “Never say never.” This is absolutely true, and for good reason because  anything can happen at any time, to anyone in any place, and in any situation.  For the Christian, it is only by the wisdom, grace, and mercy of Almighty God something will be prevented from actually taking place. Here is a noteworthy example. The Apostle Peter denied the Lord Jesus Christ three times. It started  just after Jesus had instituted “The Lord’s Supper.”  Jesus and His disciples, including Peter, went out to the Mount of Olives. The Bible says, “And Jesus said to them, “You will […]
