HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD!

God’s glory and man’s dominion. Psalm 8 (NIV). A Psalm of King David. 1  O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2  From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies to silence the foe and the avenger. 3  When I consider your heavens the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4  What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5  You made him a little […]

“Is compassion essential for living?”

Compassion means demonstrating empathy, concern, kindness, and caring toward others and willingness to help them.  In its more commonly used sense, compassion has been defined as “sympathetic pity and concern for the suffering or misfortunes of others.”  God is the God of compassion. The Scripture describes the extent of God’s compassion in this way: “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin” (Exodus 34:6,7 NIV).  Compassion incorporates love, thoughtfulness, gentleness, tenderness, commitment, and mercy. The prophet Jeremiah wrote this about God’s compassion: […]

Jesus Christ the Son of God!

“Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). The Bible says that this “is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance” because the message emphasizes that no one is beyond redemption and that salvation is a free gift of grace rather than earned merit. It all began with Adam, God’s first created human being, and whom God placed in a sinless environment. God also gave Adam specific instructions on what he could and could not do.  Adam disobeyed God, and as a result, sin came into the world. The Bible points out ”Just as sin came […]

What is it about the Cross?

Why is such great emphasis being placed on the cross of Jesus Christ? In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul declared: “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:14). For Paul, Jesus’ death on the cross meant that the world died to him and he has died to the world. Therefore, the cross becomes the great dividing line or barrier between the world and the Christian. First of all, and of great importance is […]

“Why Holy Week?”

Holy Week (or Passion Week) is the most significant and sacred week for Christians world-wide. One of the reasons is that it is the last week of the earthly life of the Lord Jesus Christ. The week begins on “Palm Sunday” and ends on Easter Sunday when Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Palm Sunday commemorates the humility, and yet “triumphal entry” of Jesus Christ into the holy city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. He was greeted by large crowds “who took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him” (John 12:13). Palm Sunday also […]

“How Courageous Are You?”

The word courageous simply means “to be brave; fearless; bold.” In his charge to Timothy, the Apostle Paul wrote, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.  So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord” (2 Timothy 1:7-8).  Note: “a spirit of power” and “do not be ashamed.”   Paul’s charge to Timothy is applicable to Christians today.  We have the reliable God-given power, and absolutely nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. One of the loveliest verses in Isaiah is where the prophet records what God is saying to […]

“Just This One Thing!”

King David declared: “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. To behold the beauty of the LORD;  And to inquire in His Temple” (Psalm 27:4).  And it expresses King David’s triumphant faith and love for Almighty God. It seems that David had adjusted his life to one top priority. It also reveals that David was a  man of indomitable spirit. David knew exactly what he wanted, and he was determined to get it. Nothing could stand in his way.  How does this […]

The Sovereignty of God Almighty

Sovereignty means unlimited power and authority.  Whereas the Bible presents much about the Sovereignty of God, yet there is no attempt in the Scriptures to prove God’s existence.  The very first words in all of the holy Scriptures tell us, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Since this Sovereign God is also the divine author of the Bible, it means that “All scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). One of the Hebrew names or titles for God is “El Elyon,” which […]

“True Christians are the “Doers”!”

The Bible states, “But be doers of the word, and not hears only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22).  It is absolutely essential for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to put in practice the teachings of God’s Holy Word. How else can we live spiritually productive, God-pleasing lives and thereby obtain the great blessings God has in store for His people? The word “do” is an “action” verb, which means “to act on, or to carry out.”  Hence, “doers of the Word” mean to act on, or to carry out what the Bible instructs or teaches in everyday living.  For instance, the Bible says […]
