But by the grace of God . . . . .

The apostle Paul has much to say about the grace of God in his letters. He recalls a time when he persecuted the church of God. He writes, “For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God” (1 Corinthians 15:9). And then he declares, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me” (1 Corinthians 15:10). It […]

Why I am a Christian

The name Christian was given to the early followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and continues to this present day and age. I have been a Christian for most of my life with absolutely no regrets whatsoever. It was actually the greatest decision I had ever made.  Admittedly, being a true Christian in this present world system is not easy. History shows Christins can be ridiculed, teased, cursed at, scorned, condemned, or even ignored. These are just some of the challenges a Christian must always be prepared to face.  First and foremost, God loves me, as He does all mankind.  And His love […]

Jesus Saves, Keeps, Satisfies

These are the most important words you will ever hear. And you would be very wise to accept and believe them. First of all “Jesus saves.” Why is this so important? Over 2,000 years ago Jesus went to the synagogue and read from a portion of Isaiah’s prophecy: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke […]

Singing

What is singing? One may ask. Perhaps there will be different answers according to one’s personal perception. The writer’s definition of singing is “a sequence of melodious sounds by a person’s voice.” There are basically five different voice types, namely soprano, alto, tenor, bass, and contralto. Soprano is the highest-sounding female singing voice. Some boys naturally sing soprano until their voices are fully developed. Alto is a low female voice. Tenor is the highest male voice. Bass is a low male voice. Contralto is a very rare lower-than-alto sounding voice. Then there is the baritone voice. Baritone falls between a high tenor and a lower […]

YET NOT I; BUT CHRIST . . . . .

The Apostle Paul writes to the Galatians: “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 KJV). This is a wonderful testimony for Christians because they have trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is by God’s grace people are saved. The Scripture says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians […]

What is your life?

There is nothing more uncertain in life than life itself. Think of it; we can be here today and tomorrow we are gone. And no one, but no one has any control over life. The brevity of life cannot be denied by anyone, because mortal man can die at any time. Time like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away; They fly forgotten as a dream Dies at the opening day. —Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 The future is not guaranteed to anyone. The Bible tells us about the uncertainty of life: “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What […]

Why worry? Is there a cure?

Why do people worry? Is worry and anxiety really necessary? Here’s how Corrie Ten Boom described worry:  “Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength—carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength.” Corrie Ten Boom, 1892-1983, was a Christian Holocaust survivor. The Oxford Dictionary defines worry as “to keep thinking about unpleasant things that might happen or about problems that you have.”  In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives the cure for worry and anxiety. He says, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about […]

Great Savior; Wonderful Lord

One of the many glorious things about our salvation is that we have a great Savior and a wonderful Lord, who saves, keeps, and satisfies. And who “is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).  Because “sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Romans 5:12); it was therefore necessary for a remedy; so that man could be reconciled to God and be at peace with Him.  God in His grace […]

When God Forgives . . .

The Scripture plainly states:  “If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1John 1:6-9).  Only God has the divine authority to […]

Be Still, and Know . . .

The 46th Psalm begins: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling” (Psalm 46:1-3). This Psalm is telling us the omni-present God is with us as a refuge and strength. And His presence is guaranteed no matter the circumstance. King David said, “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). “A mighty fortress is […]
