Why I believe

You have heard it said, “you believe what you want to believe.” Or, “I will believe if there is sufficient evidence to convince me.” Or, this famous one, “Seeing is believing.” Everyone is free to claim any of these statements. For Bible-believing Christians, “Believing is seeing.” In today’s world it is difficult to believe lots of things. For example, politicians say things that are absolutely unbelievable, particularly when they are running for elected office.  “I believe in God.” I trust God and I trust His Word. “Let God be true though everyone were a liar.” (Romans 3:4). Without any doubt, this reveals the supremacy of the God of heaven […]

SPIRITUAL REVIVAL

The word “revive” comes from the Latin roots re-, meaning “again,” and vivere, meaning to “live.” Put together, revive means to “live again.” The dictionary defines the word “revival” as “an improvement in the condition or strength of something.” Revival is needed when things have declined from how they once were. For example, when a Christian loses the zeal and enthusiasm he once enjoyed in worshipping and serving the Lord, then restoration of that vital relationship with the Lord Jesus is necessary. “Revival means awakening, stimulating the life, bringing it to the surface again. It happens primarily in the Church of God, […]

The Wonder of the God-man

“Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16). “God was manifested in the flesh refers to the Lord Jesus, and particularly to His Incarnation. True godliness was manifest in the flesh for the first time when the Savior was born as a Babe in Bethlehem’s manger.” (William MacDonald, Believer’s Bible Commentary p. 2090). Incarnation literally means “to take on flesh” or, “God becomes flesh.” God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ as the Son […]

WHY I BELIEVE IN GOD

An atheist is a person who does not believe in the existence of God. History tells us that some atheists have come to believe in God and actually renounced their previous unbeliefs about God. To God be all the glory.  The story is told about two atheists who set out to prove that God does not exist. Both men decided that each would read the Bible with the intent to disprove what it’s teachings about God. After some time, both men met together to compare their findings. As God would have it, the men acknowledged what the Bible says about […]

Obedience and Faith

“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Genesis 22:2). What would be your response to such a request? This was God’s request to Abraham. And in so doing, God was testing Abraham’s sincerity, loyalty, and faith. Note these words, “your only son Isaac, whom you love.” Perhaps some of us are thinking, how would I react if that was me? Only God knows if we were in a similar position. Obedience and faith […]

Pray; Always Pray

Prayer is foundational to the Christian life. And the Scriptures have much to say about prayer. I, like many other believers, can attest to the significance of prayer in everyday living. Prayer means speaking with our heavenly Father, therefore our failure to pray means we are not on “speaking terms” with Him. God created prayer as the means of communicating with Him. The Lord Jesus told a parable to His disciples “to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to lose heart” (Luke 18:1). Note these words “ought always to pray.” Prayer is about relationship and communication with Almighty God. […]

The Jesus of the Bible

Do you know the Jesus of the Bible? Or perhaps do you know about the Jesus of the Bible? There is a significant difference here. Firstly, to know the Jesus of the Bible is to receive Him as your personal Savior and have a relationship with Him. Secondly, after trusting Jesus as your Savior you will be able to know about Jesus from the Scriptures. There is a song many of us used to sing at Church services that goes: “Everybody ought to know, Everybody ought to know, Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. He’s the Lily of the Valley, He’s […]

How well are you running?

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1,2). These verses seem to summarize the worship and walk of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Christian life is referred to as “the race.” And the race constitutes a life of faith, discipline, and endurance. Jesus Christ is our perfect and greatest example in living the Christian life. He victoriously […]

This Same Jesus . . .

“And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, ”Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10,11). This is a most significant portion of holy Scripture, because it is the promise of Jesus Christ’s return or second advent. Note: This Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” This promise […]

How to live by Faith

What is the meaning of faith? The Holy Scriptures gives us an explanation. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. And without faith it is impossible to please [God].”  (Hebrews 11:1,2,6). Hebrews chapter 11 is considered as the Biblical “hall of faith,” because it sets forth the superior way of faith.  Christian living is wholly based on faith; the Lord Jesus Christ being the perfect example, and the “founder and perfecter of our faith.” The Bible says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a […]
