This Jesus . . . will come . . .

“And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven” (Acts 1:10,11). Luke the “beloved physician” recorded this most significant event of the departure and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ and the promise of His return or “second advent.”  R.A. Torrey, evangelist, pastor, and writer, wrote the following:”The second coming of Christ is said to be […]

Godliness

Godliness is mentioned a few times in the New Testament. And to think of it, we must conclude that the Holy Scriptures are about godliness. The Bible is a “God-book.” Godliness means being entirely devoted to God; living a disciplined God-centered, morally upright lifestyle in total obedience and conformity to His Word. Therefore, there can be no substitute for godliness and it is not an option. Otherwise, what’s the point of being saved? We have heard it said that so-and-so is a “godly person,” or a “real godly person.” That is a wonderful compliment for any Christian. It means that […]

Faith and Humility

Faith and humility go hand in hand. Both complement each other. Some of us may “excel” in faith but lack humility. On the other hand, some may have the humility but lack the faith. The Scriptures record the healing of a centurion’s servant by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 8:5-10 and also in Luke 7:1-10. Both accounts are essential for Christian growth and maturity.  Our text is taken from from Matthew Chapter 8. “When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly. And he said to […]

“Believing is Seeing!”

“Seeing is believing,” goes the old saying, which means you must see something before you believe it is true or exists. However, contrary to popular belief, “seeing is not always believing.” We believe many times without actually seen what we believe. While waiting on a bus of train, we believe both will actually arrive even though we do not actually see either of them coming. Why? Because in the past, we have depended on that mode of transportation and they have showed up. It is wholly based on faith. Let us now consider one of the most important statements about […]

Missing the mark

Anything that falls short of God’s glory is sin. Sin is lawlessness. God declares, “Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness” (1 John 3:4). Lawlessness is defined as “a state of disorder due to a disregard of the law,” This results in evil, defiance, rebellion, unruly and unholy acts that are offensive to God.  There is absolutely no doubt that we are living in a “sin defiled” world where sin seems to be the order of the day for some “who neither feared God nor respected man” (Luke 18:2). Sin means “to miss the mark.” And man sins because he is a sinner […]

“It Is Finished”

“It is finished.” What is finished? “It is finished” is the English translation of the Greek word “Tetelestai.” Tetelestai was one of the second-to-last of the seven last words (or cries) uttered by the Lord Jesus Christ just before He died on the Cross.  The Bible records for us the order of events at the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. And we read in part that “After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held […]

Crucified with Christ

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”(Galatians 2:20). This was the apostle Paul’s resolve. In it we can clearly see his unreserved commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ “who loved me and gave himself for me.” Would to God, as Christians, we all had this text as a genuine personal witness and testimony to what Jesus Christ means to us. “Christ . . . […]

Christianity: A “cash cow?”

As a “born again” believer in the Lord Jesus Christ for many years, and a member of the Christian community, I am shocked, saddened, and appalled at what is happening today in the Christian community. Never before has one seen such rampant dishonesty, avarice, excess, greed, and corruption in the Church of Jesus Christ “which He purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). The Church is not “owned” by the pastor.  The Church is the “purchased possession” of Jesus Christ, who told Peter “on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Not an […]

Conscience

What is “conscience?” The dictionary defines conscience as “the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motive, impelling one toward right action.” Conscience has to do with the mind and inner most thoughts of a person. Essentially, conscience enables a person to discern right from wrong, and good from evil. “Our conscience is a divine alarm system,” writes Dr Charles Stanley, “that protects us from making wrong decisions. It’s a gift from God that enables us to distinguish between what is right and wrong—between what’s good and best in our lives” (The Charles F Stanley Life Principles Bible p. […]

My Testimony

It gives me much joy and delight to share my testimony through the medium of this blog. I am most grateful to the God I now worship and serve that indeed I am sinner “saved by grace.” I was born to Christian parents and raised in a godly home in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” My father was a pastor in the local community Church.  In our home, my father “conducted” family devotions/prayers every (early) morning—Sunday to Saturday. We would each read a verse of Scripture after which my father would explain. And then we would kneel around the bed […]
