Glory to God

“Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son, Glory be to God the Spirit. God Almighty, Three in One. (Horatius Bona, 1808-1889). This beautiful hymn has been sung in Churches for many years. When we say “Glory to God” or “Glory be unto God,” we are expressing that God is deserving of our honor, praise, and thanksgiving. There is also this well known doxology. “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and forever shall be, world without end. Amen.” The Oxford Dictionariesdefine the word glory as […]

Seek The LORD!

God’s prophet Isaiah issues an invitation to “abundant life.” He writes, “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked  forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion on him, and to our God for He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6,7). Isaiah is appealing to everyone to respond to God’s call to “Seek the Lord.” God is calling all people—both Jews and Gentiles, to Himself that they may know Him, His ways, His will, His purposes, and His plans for their lives. And also […]

The Incomparable God

Throughout the Holy Scriptures, we can clearly identify God’s greatness in many instances. Let us keep in mind that God is sovereign and He possesses ultimate power. In The Revelation to John, God declared, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev. 1:8).God identifies Himself as the Alpha and the Omega, which is the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. This means that God is the “beginning and the end.” Everything originates in Him, and everything ends in Him. God knows the past, the present and […]

Rejoice in the Lord!

The letter to the Philippians is one of the apostle Paul’s “prison letters,” which he wrote in Rome. The general theme of the letter is “christian experience.” In its concluding chapter, Paul exhorts and encourages the believers to “Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I will say, rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). This is a very familiar verse for many of us. To rejoice in the Lord always should be the heartfelt desire of every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Take note, “Rejoiceinthe Lord always.” We are to rejoice in the Lord—not in ourselves, or aspirations, or abilities, or ideas, or accomplishments, or circumstances. The Christian […]

To Live is Christ

“To me to live is Christ and to die is gain,” writes the apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippian Church (Phil. 1:21). In this short verse, it seems that Paul is saying “Christ is my life.” And when I die I will be with Christ—to live and reign with Him forever. As far as Paul is concerned, everything that he says and does must glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. This is supported in his letter to the Corinthians where he exhorted them to “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1). Paul is saying that since he […]

EXCUSES

There are many and varied reasons why we make excuses. An excuse is a reason or explanation to either defend or justify one’s words or actions in a particular instance. For example, the home owner took immediate action to prevent the fire from spreading to his neighbor’s property. And there is the lawyer who attends court to defend his client from criminal charges. Depending on the circumstances, people will try to find an excuse to clear themselves of blame or suspicion. Some excuses have proven to be genuine and truthful. Others have been false, deceitful, and proven to be lies. […]

Fellowship with who?

The apostle John writes, “Our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ . . . This is the message we heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:3,5-7). “God is light, and in […]

God’s Infinite Wisdom and Knowledge

In his letter to the Roman Christians, the apostle Paul concludes chapter 11 with the following, which some have referred to as a doxology. “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to Him that He might be repaid?” For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:33-36). With our finite minds, we will never […]

Come Away And Rest

In returning from their mission “to proclaim the kingdom of God and heal,” the apostles gathered to report to the Lord Jesus “all that they had done and taught.” In response, Jesus said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat” (Mark 6:31). Note: the apostles “had no leisure even to eat.” There seems to be a message in Jesus’ statement for many of us as Christians. We are so very busy and involved in our day-to-day work activities that there is little or […]

He Is Ever-Living

Who is the “Ever-Living?” Let’s find out from the Holy Scriptures. The apostle John “was on the island called Patmos, on account of the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 1:9). John gets a divine vision of “seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man” (Revelation 1:12,13). John continues, “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am […]
