Running Well

The christian life is likened to a race that begins on earth and ends in heaven. There are christians who have not really “ran well.” Perhaps lukewarmness, indifference, complacency, may have crept into their lives. We must be mindful that we are living in the “last days” where love and obedience to God have waned and become practically none-existent for some. Obviously, the Galatians had started off well in their endeavors and enthusiasm about the christian life. But, alas, something happened. In his letter to them, the apostle Paul pointed out, “You were running well, who hindered you from obeying […]

Revival

Revival is that the Holy Spirit comes down upon a number of people together, upon a whole church, upon a number of churches, districts, or perhaps a whole country. That is what is meant by revival.  And the effect of that is that they immediately become aware of His presence and of His power in a manner that they have never known before. I am talking about Christian people, about church members gathered together as they have done so many times before. Suddenly they are aware of His presence, they are aware of the majesty and the awe of God. […]

Restoration

In my many years as a “born-again” believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I am deeply concerned about believers who once “ran well” with a love, passion and enthusiasm for the Lord, but somehow strayed from the “christian pathway.” Apparently they must have taken their eyes off the Lord and instead focused on the things of this world.  Because of His foreknowledge, God knew that there would come the time when “some will depart from the faith,” hence in writing to Timothy, the Apostle Paul stated, “In latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits […]

Praise the LORD

Psalm 150 concludes the entire book of Psalms, the longest book in the Bible with 150 chapters. The theme of Psalm 150, like the book of psalms itself, is praise. Each of the last five Psalms begins and ends with “Praise the LORD.” Psalm 150 is a very short Psalm with only six verses, the first five beginning with praise and takes approximately 30 seconds to read. Yet, it brings before us our need to praise God, “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD” (Verse 6). The word praise occurs no less than twelve times in this “grand finale” […]

Opportunity

Opportunity refers to a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. The age-old proverb says, “Opportunity knocks only once.” Properly applied, means an opportunity that, if grasp, would definitely give the individual only one chance to do something that would bring fulfillment or yield “super” benefits. Take for example when a prize can be yours if you purchase the winning ticket. If the winner did not embrace the opportunity to buy that ticket, the prize would not be theirs. Some one said, “Three things that never come back; the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost […]

One Thing!

“One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. To behold the beauty of the LORD; And to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4). This Psalm is a declaration of King David’s triumphant faith and love for God. David had pared down his life to just one point, “One thing I have desired of the LORD.” How does this “concept” apply to you and me? Like David, could one of our top priorities in life is to go to the house […]

New heavens and new earth

John writes, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea. 2) I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2). It appears that after the rapture, the current heavens and earth will be done away and replaced by “new heavens and a new earth.” It seems obvious that there has to be a new earth because Adam and Eve disobeyed God thereby introducing […]

Man’s Responsibility

John 15:22 “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.”  As often as you hear the Word preached and reject it, as often as you are warned, and stifle the voice of your conscience, as often as you are made to tremble, and yet say, “Go Your way for this time, when I have a more convenient season, I will send for You,” (ref?) Jesus Christ came for the specific purpose to suffer and die for sinful mankind, but He is coming […]

Life

As christians, if I were to ask you, “What does life mean to you” or “What is life all about?” or “What is living?” How would you respond? These are important questions for all of us as it means a clear distinction between believers in Jesus Christ and non-believers.  In Philippians 1:21, the Apostle Paul declares: “For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” This is a tremendous statement, and cannot be treated lightly. This should be the center-piece of every christian’s life. You may say, this applies only to Paul. Absolutely in not. This applies […]

Joy

Joy is just a three-letter word and yet it speaks volumes, especially to Christians. The Lord Jesus Christ is the source of the christian’s joy, and He is the perfect example of joy Himself. Consider what the Bible says concerning His imminent death on the cross. “Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of God” (Hebrews 12:2).   Joy means a good feeling of great pleasure and delight, irrespective of the outcome or circumstance. There is a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is the […]
