Jesus Is Coming Back

The greatest event yet to take place is the coming back of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the greatest hope and anticipation of “born-again” christians worldwide. This event is mentioned numerous times in the Holy Scriptures. R. A. Torrey, evangelist, pastor, and writer, wrote the following: “The second coming of Christ is said to be mentioned three hundred and eighteen times in the two-hundred and sixty chapters of  the New Testament, and “it occupies one in every twenty-five verses” from Matthew to Revelation” (R. A. Torrey, What the Bible Teaches, Updated Edition, P. 230, Whitaker House, Publisher). Absolutely no […]

In Remembrance of Me

The Lord’s Supper or Communion as it is also called is an “ordinance” (or sacrament) given to Church by the Lord Jesus Christ. In his letter to the Corinthian believers, the Apostle Paul wrote: “I received from the Lord that I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He brook it and said, “Take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup […]

Idols

The definition of an idol, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a representation or symbol of an object of worship; broadly: a false god.” Therefore, anything that takes the place of the one and only true and living God, is an idol. The scriptures make the first allusion to idolatry when “Rachel (Jacob’s wife) stole her father’s household gods” (Genesis 31:19).  An idol can be a variety of “secular” things—even things that appear “harmless.” For example, under the so-called “power of nature,” there are those who worship rivers, lakes, mountains, trees, the sun, moon and stars. Others worship money, possessions, personal […]

I Was Glad

King David wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the house of the LORD” (Psalm 122:1). In these meaningful words, David expressed his joy of going to the House of the LORD (the Tabernacle). Even before he got there, he made it known. Notice what he said, “I was glad when they said to me …” David certainly did not hide his excitement. Shouldn’t that be a wonderful encouragement for us to be excited about going to the house of the Lord. This is not the only time that David expressed his zeal for […]

How Do You Pray?

The universally well-known and loved prayer that the Lord Jesus taught His disciples, called “The Lord’s Prayer” is recorded in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-4. This prayer was intended as a “model” prayer for the disciples. We read, “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord teach us to pray,” and Jesus said to them, when you pray say” …..  Note, the disciples did not ask Jesus to “teach them a prayer,” hence it is actually a model prayer and should be more appropriately referred to as “The […]

Habit

The word habit is described as “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. In other words, a habit is a “learned behavior.” As humans, we are creatures of habit. As everyone is aware, there are good habits and there are bad habits.  Obviously, it is not possible to list every habit here. However, I will list a few. Firstly, good habits include, prayer, reading/studying God’s Word, attending church, assisting others, kindness, thoughtfulness, etc. Secondly, bad habits include, selfishness, complaining, gossiping, smoking, drinking, doing drugs, gambling, stealing, and so forth.   Interestingly, an anonymous author wrote […]

Guard My Mouth

You have probably heard it said, “Think before you speak,” and also “silence is golden.” These are very meaningful expressions because many times we seem to either “lose it” or “blow up” when we become angry, frustrated, or irritated. In his prayer for godliness, King David asked God, “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!” (Psalm 141:3). David seemed to have been in some distress as in his prayer he asked God, “Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds” (Psalm 141:4). We use […]

Good News

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins and rose again, and eternally conquered sin, death, hell, and the grave.  Religion cannot save anyone. Good works cannot save anyone. No one can save anyone. Only Jesus Christ can, because this was the express purpose for which He came into the world.  The gospel means that we are all sinners before God, who is holy, just, and righteous and under the sentence of eternal separation from God. Because of God’s unfathomable love for us, He sent the Son into the world to […]

Godliness

Godliness is “reverence and respect for, and devotion to, the God of the Bible. Godliness is being spiritually-minded, that is, always doing that which is well-pleasing to God. This involves my thinking, my attitude, my actions, my reactions, and generally speaking, my behavior. Is it possible to be a christian and not be godly? The answer is definitely yes. After listing several christian virtues that will supplement our faith, the Apostle Peter concludes, “Whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins” (2 Peter 1:3-10). Godliness is also […]

God created the heavens and the earth

The very first message in the Bible is about God and the fact that He “created the heavens and the earth.” This is most significant because the holy scriptures begin with God and with God as Creator. Also, establishing the fact of His existence as God. The text clearly shows that no “creation” existed before God began creating the heavens and the earth. The Bible states “The earth was formless and empty with darkness all over” (Genesis 1:2) Note: God created the “heavens” (plural) and the “earth” (one earth). Psalm 100:25 says. “In the beginning [God] laid the foundations of […]
