Christ’s Atoning Work Is Done

he Bible tells us: “There no longer remains a sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26). When Christ died on the Cross, He secured an eternal redemption for us by paying the penalty for our sins once and for all.  Atonement means “reconciliation.” And sinful man is reconciled to God through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ has reconciled us to himself” (2 Corinthians 5:17,18).  The Bible says: “When Jesus had received the sour […]

“Heavenly Minded Christians”

Should Christians be “heavenly minded?” Yes, according to the Word of God. How else can one endeavor to live a life that’s pleasing to God. It’s not possible to please God and please the world at the same time. The apostle Paul writing to the Colossians says this, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:1-3). […]

Should we wait upon God?

One of the disciplines of the christian life, and which requires patience, is waiting upon God. For example, when we pray, we must wait upon God for the answers. And this should be respected. Otherwise why pray if we are not prepared to wait. First and foremost, let us recognize that God is Sovereign, and as such He is fully in control of all things. Waiting upon God has great benefits for those who are willing to wait.  Here is a great promise to those who wait on the Lord. The prophet Isaiah wrote: “But they who wait for the LORD […]

Why Attend Church?

Why attend Church? The word Church is derived from the Greek word “ekklesia,” meaning assembly or gathering. Therefore, the Church consists of believers in Jesus Christ who assemble or gather in a physical building for worship, fellowship, prayer, Bible study, holy communion, evangelism, discipleship, and other spiritual activities. There is the “local Church” and there is the “worldwide Church.” The local Church is a gathering of believers that serve a local community. The Church worldwide is the collective group of believers around the world. Every believer is a member of the body of Jesus Christ. First Corinthians 12:27 says “Now you […]

Remembering the Lord’s Sacrifice

The Lord Jesus left two sacraments for the Church before His departure for heaven. One is the Lord’s Supper, also called Holy Communion, and the other is Baptism.  Remembering the Lord’s sacrifice in His death on the Cross is to be reminded that it was all in God’s plan for man to be forgiven of his sins. The Scripture makes it very clear, “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). This means only the shed blood of Jesus Christ could effectively satisfy divine justice once and for all.  Regarding the Lord’s Supper, the apostle Paul writes: “For I received from the […]

“A Quiet Time”

Many of us live busy lives and are ‘on the go’ most of the time. Some from dawn to dusk every day. If you are a Christian, are you in this category? Thank God for Sunday when we can attend church for worship services.  A quiet time from the routines of life is absolutely essential for Christians to take a break from the pressures of life and spend quality time in God’s presence for prayer and spiritual refreshment.  The Lord Jesus knew the importance of a quiet time for prayer. The Bible says this about Him. “But He would withdraw to […]

The Christian Church

The Christian church is not a physical building. But christians gather together in a physical building sometimes referred to as a house or place of worship. The word church is derived from the Greek word “ekklesia,” which means “an assembly” or “called out ones from the world,” those who have been saved by God’s infinite grace.  First, there is the local church that serves the community where it is located. Then there is the “church worldwide,” which consists of all local churches. Weekly church services and other spiritual activities are convened in the local church regardless of denomination.   The Bible teaches that […]

“Wait, I say, on the LORD!”

The topic is taken from Psalm 27:14 (KJV) where David says, “Wait, I say, on the LORD.”  One of the disciplines in living the Christian is waiting on the Lord. Waiting on the Lord means allowing Him to act and provide answers to our prayers. It requires patience, hope, courage, and trust in the God of the Scriptures. It is also a test of our obedience, faith, and confidence in Almighty God. Patience is an essential component of Christian living. The writer to the Hebrews exhorts believers: “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of […]

How Glad Are You?

The word glad is a beautiful word. It means to be delighted and to be pleased with joy. In Psalm 32:11 King David exhorts us, “Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.”

What is your number one priority?

People in general have priorities in life. In doing so, they give more attention to certain things more than other things. And that can be understood. However, it begs the question; what place does God take in the order of your priorities?  For the Christian, God is the number one priority in life. Anyone or anything that comes before God is an idol. God makes it clear, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). The Scripture also states that God “is a jealous God” (Exodus 34:14), and rightly so because He has declared of himself: “I am the LORD; that is my […]
