The God Book

What is “The God Book?” The God Book is The Holy Bible—a ‘good’ Book. The Bible is often referred to as God’s Word, the Scriptures, the Holy Scriptures, or the Canon of Scripture. The dictionary describes the Bible as “the Holy Book of Christians consisting of the Old and New Testaments” The Bible originated with God as the divine Author. We read, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17).  And God, being the […]

Let Us Do Good!

The “Golden Rule” says, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them” (Matthew 7:12). Commonly referred to as the “Golden Rule” is a Biblical principle and part of Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount.” It should be noted that the words Golden Rule are not in the Bible. It is believed that many people live by this principle with a moral obligation and duty to do so. The Christian’s endeavor must always be to do good to others and for others.  The apostle Paul stated in his letter to the Galatian Church, “Let us not […]

God’s House

The Christian Church is neither a building of any kind, nor a denomination. Unfortunately, to many, the Church is a building where people go to worship and praise God. So then, exactly what is the Church? The word Church is the English translation of the Greek “ekklesia” meaning a “called out ones” or an “assembly” (of people). The Holy Scriptures refer to the Church as the “body of Christ” over which He is the Head. The Apostle Paul writes that God “put all things in subjection under His [Christ’s] feet and gave Him as head over all things to the […]

Praising God

“Now these, the singers, the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple, free from other service, for they were on duty day and night”(1 Chronicles 9:33). It was so ordained in the temple that the sacred chant should never cease. The singers were free from other service to continually chant praise to the LORD, whose mercy endures forever. This musical ministry went on endlessly day and night. As God’s mercy ceased not to rule either by day or by night, neither did music hush its sacred ministry.  There is a wonderful lesson in […]

Fearing God

The word “fear” has several meanings and can be either a noun or a verb. For “born again” christians, we have “reverential fear” of God is reverence in recognition of who He is. Christians believe that God is sovereign, holy, just, and righteous and that He speaks to us through His Word, the Bible and we speak to Him through our prayers. King David prayed, “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name” (Psalm 86:11). In writing on raw subject of “man’s reasoning,” King Solomon concluded his book […]

God Is Love

The Bible gives us a detailed explanation of love. The Apostle Paul writes in part, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always, hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).  There are basically three categories of love which are stated here. “Agape love,” which is selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love. “Eros love,” which […]

What God Requires

The Sovereign God of heaven and Creator of the universe has set forth in His Word exactly what he requires of His people. The prophet Micah writes that God denounced Israel for their disobedience to Him inspite of His kindness. God had already declared His ongoing commitment to Israel and told them (as His ‘bride’), “I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice in steadfast love and in mercy” (Hosea 2:19). In response, Israel proposes to offer sacrifices to “make up” for the error of their sinful ways. But God told them He preferred an obedient and […]

Things God Hates

“There are six things that the LORD hates, seven are an abomination to Him.” So wrote King Solomon (Proverbs 6:16). These things are as follows:  “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, false witness who breathes out lies, one who sows discord among brothers” (Proverbs 6:17-19). Because of His holiness and righteousness, God must hate these things. As a result, christians have absolutely no right to practice or participate in them. Haughty eyes are indicative of a proud person whose eyes reflect the […]

The Glory of God

One of God’s many great attributes is His “glory.” The word “glory” means worshipful praise, adoration, honor, and thanksgiving to God. Not surprisingly God said this of Himself. “I am the LORD; that is my Name; and My glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to carved idols” (Isaiah 42:8). God is sovereign, therefore, He will not share His glory with another god, neither His praise to heathen worshippers. On the topic “The glory of God,” John Piper aptly writes. “His glory is the open revelation of the secret of his holiness. In Leviticus 10:3, God says, […]

Sovereignty of God

Sovereignty means unlimited power and authority. Whereas the Bible presents much about the Sovereignty of God, yet there is no attempt in the scriptures to prove God’s existence. The very first words in all scripture begins, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Since the Sovereign God is the divine author of the Bible, it means that “All scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).  One of the Hebrew names or titles for God is “El Elyon,” which means “God Most High.” […]
