The Friday before Easter Sunday is called Good Friday, on which the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is commemorated by Christians worldwide.
Holy Week or Passion Week is the week preceding Easter. This year (2022) Holy Week begins April 10 and ends April 16. On Sunday April 17 is Easter when Christians celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.
Holy Week begins with events that led to Christ’s Crucifixion. “Palm Sunday,” commemorates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem when the crowds spread their blankets and palm branches on the way as the Lord made His entrance into the city riding a donkey. Mark 11:1-11 refers.
The Bible says, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4).
The Bible says, “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you” (Isaiah 59:1,2). This is the tragic nature of sin.
It all began in the Garden of Eden when God created the first man, Adam, and placed him in the garden with specific instructions on what to eat and what not to eat.
Here’s the Biblical account. “The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of
Eden to work it and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:15-17).
“You shall surely die” refers to “spiritual death,” that is, eternal separation from God, and thus end up in a Christless eternity. The Bible says “Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).
It was not God’s intent and purpose that man should continue living a life-long separation from God. Therefore, God devised the plan for man’s salvation which would restore the lost fellowship he once had with God.
God’s plan of salvation required His great gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ that whoever believes in Him would have eternal life. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Eternal life means “lasting forever beyond death,” and spending it in heaven with Jesus Christ.
Here’s how to receive God’s offer of salvation, and guarantees eternal life. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9,10).
Make this prayer as your own prayer. “Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and I need and ask your forgiveness of my sins. I believe you died and rose from the dead for me. I now trust you as my Lord and Savior and pray that you will guide my life to glorify you. In your name I pray. Amen.
Praying this prayer sincerely means you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. You should now find a Bible-believing local Church and talk to the Pastor of your life-changing decision and he will help you to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. May the Lord help you to do so. Amen.
