Jesus Saves, Keeps, Satisfies

These are the most important words you will ever hear. And you would be very wise to accept and believe them.

First of all “Jesus saves.” Why is this so important? Over 2,000 years ago Jesus went to the synagogue and read from a portion of Isaiah’s prophecy: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18,19).

Jesus is actually reading about Himself in Isaiah’s prophecy. Note these words: anointed me to proclaim good news. And the good news is the gospel that Jesus died for our sins. Jesus’s main purpose in coming was to forgive the sins of mankind. The Bible says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). This means that without exception, everyone needs salvation, and that’s why Jesus saves.

Jesus was the only perfect man who ever lived. This could never be said of any mortal human being. The Scripture says, “None is righteous, not one” (Romans 3:10). Righteous means no one is already right with God, because we were brought forth in iniquity and conceived in sin (Psalm 51:5).

Therefore, God provided His Son, Jesus Christ, for sinful man to be reconciled to God. The Bible says, “For our sake [God] made [Jesus] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). This means God made Jesus to be the “sin offering” for us, and by receiving Him as Savior we are accepted as righteous with God.

Jesus is able to save, and He will save anyone who desires to be saved. A person with such a desire will receive forgiveness of their sins when he or she repents and trusts Jesus as their personal Savior and who says, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (John 6:37).

Contrary to those who believe there are many different ways to get to heaven; there is absolutely only one way, and that way is through Jesus Christ who said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

So we see there is only one way to God’s heaven and Jesus is that way. Also Jesus is the only one who saves. The Bible clearly states, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Secondly, Jesus keeps those He saves. Here is the assurance, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish,   and no one is able to snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27,28).

The person who is saved, is guaranteed to be saved for time and eternity. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Eternal means lasting or existing forever; without end.

Eternal life means the eternal security of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is actually the life of Christ Himself who said He is the way, the truth, and the life. And He keeps His promise to those He saved “they will never perish and no one is able to snatch them out of my hand.”

Thirdly, Jesus satisfies those He saves. Here’s His assurance. “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:1-3). And the Psalm concludes: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (v. 6).

Because the Lord is my Shepherd, there is absolutely no need for me to worry about anything; because He satisfies all my needs. I certainly will lack nothing.

Finally, surely goodness and mercy will always be my portion throughout my physical life. And then I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Hallelujah. Jesus Saves me. Jesus Keeps me. Jesus Satisfies me.

Such a wonderful Savior is my great Shepherd
Whose compassions are new every morning.
Still waters and green pastures are my comfort
As I worry about nothing, nor want for anything.
He meets and satisfies my needs day after day
Until that day when I dwell in His house forever.
