Being “a mouthpiece for God” should be the earnest desire of Christians. The joys of being a Christian should never be kept to ourselves, but rather to let others know who we believe, what we believe, and why we believe.
To be a mouthpiece for God, I must first declare a summary of my beliefs. These are included in “The Apostles’ Creed,” which is a formal statement of what the Christian Church teaches and what Christians believe.
The Apostles’ Creed.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the everlasting life. Amen.
I acknowledge the words of this Creed in my devotion to Almighty God, because “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate” (Psalm 145:3,5).
Through His grace and mercy, I have put my faith in God, who has revealed Himself to me through His Holy Word—the Bible. Also, through the Gift of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the work of the “indwelling” Holy Spirit.
It’s no secret that the world is corrupt, wicked, evil, and very godless. The evidence is all around us every day. The news media reports on the violence, murders, rape, theft, arson, hatred, atrocities, and the list goes on ad infinitum.
All this is the result of sin, which began with Adam; the first human God created, and placed him in the garden of Eden—a perfect sinless environment. God not only “created man in His own image” (Genesis 1:27). God also gave man a free will so he could choose to do right or do wrong, or choose good from evil. Man’s free will has existed from the Creation.
In the garden of Eden, God gave Adam specific instructions pertaining to what he could eat and what he could not eat. The Bible says, “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:16,17).
Adam subsequently disobeyed God’s command and ate the forbidden fruit. As a result of Adam’s disobedience, the Scripture says: “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).
The Scripture also states: “There is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:22,23). Because of sin, everyone has “missed the mark.” God’s glory means God’s standard of holiness and righteousness. Man is therefore a sinner by nature and by practice.
Here’s God’s diagnosis of man: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds” (Jeremiah 17:9,10).
However, by God’s grace, mercy, and unconditional love, He has provided the way for man to be forgiven of his sins and be reconciled to Himself. And that way is through the shed blood and death of Jesus Christ on the Cross. The Bible says, “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22).
Christians are “ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20). Therefore, as ambassadors for Christ, every Christin is a mouthpiece for God in the world, including sharing our faith with others
The way to God is not through religion, church attendance, or “good works.” Jesus Christ is the only way. Hence He declares: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
I trusted Christ as my personal Savior from a child and I have endeavored to live a godly life ever since with absolutely no regrets. No other life is worthy of comparison with the Christian life that begins with faith in Christ, who saves, keeps and satisfies all who come to Him.
God speaks to me through His Word, and I speak to Him through prayer. This practice requires time which many don’t seem to have. Though we find time for other things. Think of life this way: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last” (C.T. Studd, 1860-1931).
My earnest desire is to continue being a mouthpiece for my God, no matter the cost.
Make me a channel of your gracious Word
Refresh my thoughts with grace and love
Give me the Living Bread for hungry souls
