God has created man with the ability to make choices in his life. Therefore, man can choose to make the right choice or the wrong choice. God desires that individuals make the right choice as this will have eternal outcomes. Besides, there is no middle path. As far as God is concerned one either makes the right choice or the wrong choice.
The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” (Proverbs 14:12). Note the text: “a way that seems right to a man.” Man can choose this way if he desires.
God declares: “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
God says to all mankind, you can make the choice between life and death; blessing and curse. Choosing life means entering into, and enjoying God’s forgiveness and divine blessings He has in store for you is definitely the right choice. That’s why, God says “choose life, that you and your offspring may live.”
On the other hand, choosing death and curse is the wrong choice because it leads to eternal separation from God and heaven. When man makes this choice, he is without God and hope in a sinful world.
The wrong choice means you are heading for a “lost eternity.” And a lost eternity means God will inflict “vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (2 Thessalonians 1:8,9).
The Bible also says, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart. To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin” (Proverbs 21:2-4).
Therefore, God makes this appeal, “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; “let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD” (Isaiah 55:6-8).
Life at best is most uncertain. Hence God’s appeal requires a timely response, especially since the future is not guaranteed to any one. The Bible says, “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:14,15).
It was never God’s intent that man should perish by ending up in a lost eternity. On the contrary. The Bible says the Lord “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
And again “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Eternal life cannot be earned. Neither can it be bought. And it is “not a result of works so that no one may boast.” Eternal life a free gift from God and it is only obtained through faith in Jesus Christ. The Scripture says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
Generally, many are grateful for a free gift; the main reason being it is free of cost to the recipient. Eternal life is the very best and greatest free gift that a person will ever receive.
Eternal life has no end. The Lord Jesus made the free gift of eternal life available to all mankind because He paid the penalty for man’s sins when He shed his blood and died on the Cross.
If you have never trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior and received eternal life; you may do so right now. There’s absolutely no time like the present. The Bible says, “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12).
I’m sure you would rather receive Jesus and have eternal life and be on your way to heaven. Here’s how to receive Jesus as your Savior. God says. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9,10).
Note: “with the heart one believes and is justified.” This means your faith in Christ as your Savior makes you ‘righteous’ (what God demands and approves) in God’s sight. God accepts you as a person whose sins have been forgiven and you’re on your way to heaven.
