“Take Time and Consider Nature!”

It is a great and wonderful experience to take a few moments and consider the beauty and splendor of nature.  It was the creative power of God why the universe came into existence. The Scripture states: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

The universe is a revelation of the power and Deity of God. The Scripture declares: “For since the creation of the world . . . God’s eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen” (Romans 1:20).

It was a sunny mid-morning in San Antonio, Texas on April 25, 2018, and while I was seated in my backyard; enjoying the cool and quiet part of the day, I observed the grass with diminishing traces of overnight dew barely glistening in the sunshine.

I then took a cursory glance of the various shade trees and shrubs with their leaves and branches slightly fluttering in the morning breeze. There were a few birds and butterflies zipping around, while a couple of squirrels wending their way along the top of the privacy fences.

Subsequently, I curiously looked skyward and witnessed patches of off-white, fluffy, fair-weather clouds against the backdrop of a somewhat pale blue sky. The expanded view was extraordinarily spectacular because of the absence of “skyscrapers” in these parts.

As the morning progressed and the sun’s rays became more intense, the splendor of nature grabbed my interest. For sure, the sun does rise in the east and sets in the west every single day. Indeed, I would be remiss in not allowing the Holy Scriptures to penetrate my mind during this time. Nature, I thought, is exclusively God’s handiwork—no mortal soul had any lot or part in it.

Here are other statements concerning God as Creator. The Bible says, “God the maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them” (Psalm 146:6). Then there’s this, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11). King David wrote “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim the work of His hands (Psalm 19:1).

Oh, the wonders of Almighty God’s unique creative power as exhibited in the vast expanse of the universe that produces the sun by day and the moon and stars at night.

Scientific research informs us that the earth’s axis of rotation is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees (which never varies) of Earth’s orbit around the sun, giving us the four seasons of winter, spring, summer, and autumn every year.

God promised that “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22). We also read that God “causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45).

This clearly indicates that God cares about the Christian as well as the non-Christians. The sun is our source for light, warmth, and energy. And the rain is the source of our water supply.

In consideration of these things, we are bound to conclude that we have a great and awesome God whose wonders and ways are both matchless and divine. And whose power is displayed throughout the world. Not surprising then, that after God saved Israel from the Egyptians, Moses declared, “Who is like you O LORD among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11).

God is definitely the source of all creation because He did not create the vast universe from any preexisting matter. He started from scratch. There was absolutely nothing prior to God’s creation. Therefore, we are bound to conclude that “All things were made through him, and without Him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:3).
