Worry is giving way to anxiety or unease; and allowing one’s mind to wonder and focus on uncertainty, difficulty and trouble. Worry seems to get the better of us in many situations. Is there any hope for people who worry? One might ask. The words of an old song goes, “Worry, worry, worry. Why always me? I found out that I’m the worrying kind. I go worrying right along. Life is fine, but with a worrying mind, So many things can go wrong.” Note: “with a worrying mind, so many things can go wrong.” That’s why there has to be a way out of worry.
Statistics reveal that people who worry spend much of their time doing so. Worry will either draw us closer to God or drive us further from Him. Worry causes its victims not to have hope, neither to believe that the situation can change or improve. Worry is an exercise in futility.
In his daily devotional, “Today Can Be Different,” Dr. Harold J. Sala wrote, “Have you ever considered that worry is a senseless and futile pastime that only drains your life of energy and siphons off your productivity?” He further stated, “If there is a sovereign God who directs in the affairs of His children, then we had better put our faith into practice, which means we can say, “All right, God, you take over the night shift because I’m going to sleep.” (Published by Regal Books, Ventura, CA 93006). Dr. Sala is right. Worry is a lack of trust and confidence in God.
We live in a very complex secularistic and humanistic world where people are overwhelmed with the cares and pressures of daily living, and some find it extremely difficult to cope. Such pressures, among other things, contribute to worry and despondency. Seeking relief from self or others is not a solution to the problem. The Bible states, “He that trusts in his own heart is a fool” (Proverbs 28:26), and also, “Vain is the help of man” (Psalm 60:11). So then, where to go for help? Trusting God is the answer. Complete trust and reliance on God Almighty is the surest way to go.The word “trust” means a “firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something” (Oxford Dictionaries).
Trusting God means to recognize the sufficiency of His vast love, abundant mercy, and amazing grace. And, you can confidently cast all care on Him, because He cares for you and will neither leave nor forsake you. Unlike man, God is absolutely trustworthy and trusting Him is essentially one of the most important aspects of your relationship with Him. By casting all care on God will allow Him to work effectively in your life.
King David experienced many problems in his life, but he trusted God for deliverance Little wonder at one time he prayed, “Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:1-2). David realized that God was his only source of help and strength.
Like David, some of us get to a point in life where “our heart is faint” and we feel to throw up our hands in despair, because worry has crept in. Don’t give in or give up. Go to the “Rock.” David himself declared, “The LORD is my Rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God , my strength in whom I will trust” (Psalm 18:2).
