Considering Nature

It was a sunny mid-morning in San Antonio, TX  on April 25, 2018. While sitting in my backyard enjoying the cool and quiet of the day, I observed the grass with diminishing traces of overnight dew barely glistening in the sunshine.

I then took a a cursory glance of the various shade trees and shrubs around with their leaves and branches slightly fluttering in the cool breeze. There were a few birds and butterflies zipping around, while a couple of squirrels making their way along the top of the fences. After that I curiously looked heavenward and witnessed small patches of off-white fair-weather clouds against the backdrop of a pale blue sky. Because there are no “skyscrapers” around, one can enjoy an expanded view of the sky.

As the morning progressed and the sun’s rays becoming more intense, the splendor of nature grabbed my interest. I thought, for sure the sun does rise in the east and sets in the west every day. Indeed, I would be remiss in not allowing the holy scriptures to penetrate my mind during this time. Nature, I thought, is truly God’s handiwork. No mortal soul had any part in it.

The Bible clearly states “God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Also, “God made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them” (Psalm 146:6). There is also “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11). King David wrote “The heavens declares the glory of God and the sky above proclaims His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

Oh, the wonders of God’s creative power in the vast expanse of the universe that produces the sun by day and the moon and stars at night. The earth’s movement around the sun gives us the four seasons each and every year – winter, spring, summer, and autumn.

Almighty God promised. “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22). We also read, that God “causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45). This clearly indicates that God cares about the christian as well as the non-christian. We need the sun for light, warmth, and energy. And the rain as the source of our water supply.

In consideration of these things, we are bound to conclude that we have a great God of wonders whose ways are matchless and divine. And whose power is displayed throughout the world.  Small wonder after God saved Israel from the Egyptians, Moses declared, “Who is like you O LORD among the gods? Who’s is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? (Exodus 15:11). Let us acknowledge this awesome God of whom the angels bow before and heaven and earth adore.
