Moments with the Word

God will bless and honor the person who takes time to read the Bible (the Holy Scriptures) and learn from it how live in a world that is in utter confusion, disarray, and disorder. Mortal man thinks he has the answers and solutions for every problem he faces. Why is it them do we need courts of law, judges, jurors, and law enforcement. Mortal man cannot govern himself.

Over many years of living, both Christians and non-christians alike, have proven over and over again that the Bible definitely has the answers and solutions for just about everything in life. And there is undeniable proof that this is absolutely true. God declares, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart. Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? (1 Corinthians 1:19,20). The God of the Bible is the Creator of the vast universe ”who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever” (Psalm 146:6).

Those who neither read nor believe the Bible, does so at their own peril. God will not force anyone to read or accept the authority of His Word. He created us with a mind that we can choose to think, say, or act as we please. There are some wh claim that since the Bible was written by man, why should they trust it. The point is that God out of divine wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment “appointed” some forty men to write the Holy Scriptures over a period of about fifteen hundred years. These writers were divinely directed by the Holy Spirit of God. Take note that “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16). God will always remain the divine author of all Scripture.

There is absolutely no truth to those who say the Bible “contradicts” itself. The fact is that the Bible contracts them. To fully grasp what the Scripture is saying must be taken in the context in which it is written. Scripture must be corroborated with scripture. It is inaccurate to take scripture out of its context and use it as a pretext in order to try and prove a point. The Bible makes it clear, “Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20,21).

“No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation” means “not isolated from what the Scripture states elsewhere.”

Biblical predictions of future events that have been fulfilled proves that no human mind on its own could have actually anticipated them. For example, the Hebrew prophet Isaiah predicted the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ some 700 years before it actually occurred  (Isaiah 9:6). The vicarious sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross is also the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 53). The Lord Jesus Himself quoted from Isaiah’s prophecy. And again, Isaiah wrote about the mission of John the Baptist, “A voice cries in the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isaiah 40:3). Mark also writes about the ministry of John the Baptist as stated by Isaiah, “As it is written in Isaiah the prophet . . . the voice of one crying in the wilderness; ‘Prepare the way of the LORD, make His paths straight” (Mark 1:2,3).

There are also many other predictions in Scripture that have already been fulfilled, or presently being fulfilled, or will be fulfilled at a latter time. The immorality, corruption, greed, violence, vice, and other criminal behavior existing in the world today is no different to what Paul wrote in Romans 3. This shows the foreknowledge of Almighty God. The second advent of Jesus Christ for the Church is yet to take place. No one knows the date, though some have erroneously predicted when it will occur. We also see from Scripture that this present world will not last indefinitely. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). God’s word tells the truth and it is relevant yesterday, today, and forever. Christians must accept it and live by its precepts.

Most interesting is that the Lord Jesus in the synagogue at Nazareth read from from Isaiah 61:1. Mark writes, “The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him. He unrolled it and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Mark 4:17-19). These examples clearly show the accuracy of the Scriptures. Suffice it to say the incomparable God knows everything and mortal man knows nothing in comparison.

The Bible stands though the hills may shake.
It will firmly stand though the earth may quake.
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,
For the Bible stands.
I have a wonderful treasure,
God’s great gift without measure.
We will travel together,
My dear Bible and I.
