God works through prayer

British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) said, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” This is an accurate statement about prayer. God works through prayer. And prayer works with God.  Heartfelt prayer means complete reliance on the God of the Scriptures who says, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). God is able to exceed our prayer requests in ways we could not imagine. Someone said “little prayer, little blessing; much prayer, much blessing.” Prayer is all […]

What Happened To You?

“You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?” (Galatians 5:7). The Galatians, like some Christians today, were running well, but something hindered them from obeying the truth. No believer can be spiritually successful in living the Christian life if he or she ceases to obey the truth of God’s word.  It is very difficult to fully grasp why some Christians who started off well in their faith and then decided to “drop out of the race.” What could the reasons be? Maybe there’s lack of courage or confidence to take a stand for things most certainly believed among Christians? Or, have they (conveniently) […]

Knowing Jesus vs knowing about Jesus

There is a very huge difference between knowing someone and knowing about someone. To know someone is to have a relationship with that person. On the other hand, knowing about someone means you have only seen, heard, spoken to, or read about the person but never had a personal experience with that person. To know Jesus Christ is to accept Him as your personal Savior and Lord of your life. The Bible says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Note: the text […]

No, No, No! Not Again?

With the new strain of coronavirus referred to as the delta variant that is surging by leaps and bounds, some may be saying, no, no, no! Not again? We’ve had enough. What’s happening? It brings back 2020 which will long be remembered as a very sad, dismal, and disastrous year. Millions were infected, hospitalized, and died as a result of COVID-19. No one in living memory ever saw, experienced, or anticipated anything quite like this. This dreaded disease respects no one—not the young, not the old; everyone is vulnerable.  While the gloom and doom persisted in 2020, scientists were able […]

The Sin Question

Sin is transgression of God’s divine laws. God is holy, just, and righteous, while mortal man is unholy, unjust, and unrighteous. Unrighteousness means wrongdoing, which is offense against God. The Scripture teaches that all unrighteousness is sin (1 John 5:17). Sin is lawlessness. (1 John 3:4).  William MacDonald makes a very insightful commentary about sin. “Sin is lawlessness (1 Jn. 3:4), the rebellion of the creature’s will against the will of God. Sin is not only doing what is wrong but the failure to do what one knows to be right (Jas.4:17). Whatever is not of faith is sin (Rom.14:23). This means it […]

The great mystery of godliness

A mystery is defined as a secret or something that’s unexplainable or difficult to understand. In a biblical sense, a mystery is a previously hidden truth but now divinely revealed. First Timothy 3:16 says “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.” In our text, the mystery of the kingdom of God is made known to mankind by the Lord Jesus Christ.  Manifested in the flesh. The incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ is referenced […]

My Dad — a Tribute

There are many wonderful reasons why I believe that a tribute is absolutely fitting for my dear father. In preparation to write this tribute, I thought of several “bold” or “catchy” headings such as “My Dad—a true Christian,” “My Dad—a One-of-a-kind,” “My Dad—a real Gentleman,” and “My Dad—what a Man!” However, knowing that my father wouldn’t want these accolades, I believe he would suggest making the heading simply “My Dad—a Tribute.” My dad, Eglon Cutberth Daniels was born January 19, 1904 and passed away at age 87. He was one of twelve siblings. I am one of three siblings—a sister […]

All We Like Sheep . . .

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all..” (Isaiah 53:6). This is a biblical declaration of the rebellious nature and state of mankind. We have all fallen. We have all sinned. We have all gone our own separate ways like sheep without a shepherd, We have all been led by Satan, the arch-enemy of our souls. We have all missed the mark and fallen short of God’s glory.  Fallen man needed a Savior who would free him from the bondage of sin and […]

Can man be “Justified” with God?

This is the age-old question that Bildad asked Job. The answer to this all-important question is, “It is God who justifies.” (Romans 8:33). The context is found in Job 25:4-6 ESV. “How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of a woman be pure? Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes; how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!”  The word justification in the Bible means that a person who trusts Jesus Christ as Savior, is forgiven of […]

Church Leadership

The church is not a building. The church is the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. The holy Scriptures make that clear. The church is the body of professed believers in Jesus Christ, and who exist under different names around the world. Christ is exalted as the Head of the Church, “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness or him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:22,23). The church, therefore, belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ and not to any church leader. Though some […]
