“Another New Year!”

Really? How can it be a new year. Doesn’t it have 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, and night follows day like all previous years? Yes! So, it’s not really a new year; some one might argue.  All that is absolutely true. The main difference is numerical. The previous year was 2023 and the new year is 2024. The fact remains, it is indeed a new year because we haven’t lived in it before. “Another year has cast its shadow against the backdrop of eternity, and the firm had of God has written another chapter in man’s world. Like knots in a sailor’s […]

What the Resurrection of Jesus Christ means

The Bible tells us, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4). Firstly, Christ died and He was buried. Then He was raised on the third day. The Scripture also says, “that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time . . . Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as one untimely born, He appeared also to me” (1 Corinthians 15:5-8). There was abundant evidence that […]

“Behold, the Lamb of God!”

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). Thus declares John the Baptist of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We also read in this same chapter of John, “The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, Behold, the Lamb of God” (v. 35). Dr Charles Stanley writes, “As the Old Testament sacrifices foreshadowed what Jesus Christ would do on the Cross. Here, John rightly identified Jesus as our […]

“Contending For The Faith”

“Contending for the faith” is the theme of the epistle by Jude, who was one of the brothers of the Lord Jesus Christ. To contend means taking a stand for “those things which are most surely believed among us” as Christians. Jude found it very necessary to write this epistle urging and exhorting his readers to earnestly contend for the faith in view of the prevalence of false teachers who had deliberately entered and placed themselves into the local churches.  At the conclusion of his short epistle, the second to last book in the New Testament, Jude gives us one of […]

“Bethlehem and Christmas”

Both Bethlehem and Christmas are significant as we observe and celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ who was born in the little city of Bethlehem.  The Scripture tells us this about the birth of Jesus Christ: “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). “She” is referring to Mary, the mother of Jesus.  The prophet Isaiah predicted that Christ would come: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called […]

How is your thinking?

The world in which we live is most ungodly, corrupt, dishonest, immoral,;to say the least. Today  right is wrong and wrong is right. And truth is scarce. How then should Christians think in this environment? The Bible says, “For as [man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). Admittedly, at times we struggle to live a godly life in obedience to God’s established principles and standards. Not surprising, King David prayed, “Create in me a  clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). He also prayed, “Prove me, O LORD, and try me. Test my heart and my mind” […]

“Things that are seen versus things that are not seen”

The Bible says there is a difference between the things that are seen and the things that are not seen. Here is the text: “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). The Bible is telling […]

“Give Glory Only To God!”

“Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son, Glory be to God the Spirit. God Almighty, Three in One. (Horatius Bonar, 1808-1889). This beautiful hymn has been sung for many years.  When we say “Glory to God” or “Glory be unto God,” we are expressing that God is deserving of our honor, praise, and thanksgiving. There is also this well known doxology. “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and forever shall be, world without end. Amen.” The Oxford Dictionaries define the word glory as “high renown […]

The Choices We Make

Life sets before us many choices and we must make choices every day. One of the problems we encounter is that we do not always make the right choice. Here are some rather simple choices we make every day, and at times without even thinking about it. Here are some examples. We can choose to eat or not to eat; to run or walk; to sleep or remain awake; to sit or stand; to talk or remain silent. It’s important to keep in mind choices do have consequences. History shows that people have lived to regret making the wrong choice […]

“My Lord And Me”

The well known and ever popular 23rd Psalm begins, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” This is a Psalm of King David, “the man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22). In this short Psalm of only six verses, David is expressing what the Lord means to him in a personal way. “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want” (verse 1). From then on, David uses the personal pronouns “He and you” referring to the Lord; and “I and me” referring to himself. In conclusion, David expresses his complete confidence in the Lord by saying, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the […]
