“God With Us”

The Prophet Isaiah wrote concerning the birth of Jesus Christ: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). And in Matthew 1:23 the Bible says: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall his name Immanuel (which means God with us)”  “Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail the incarnate Deity, Pleased as man with man to dwell Jesus, our Emmanuel.” —Charles Wesley (1707-1788) There is much more to Christmas than the focus being only on the “baby” Jesus without considering the […]

Why Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving can be a beautiful word in a person’s vocabulary. The dictionary defines thanksgiving as ‘the expression of gratitude, especially to God.’ How nice to hear these words of gratitude; “Thank you” or “I appreciate it,” when  a gift is given to someone or a favor is done for someone.   In the United States, “Thanksgiving Day” is an annual national holiday celebrated by family members and others as they gather together to eat and enjoy a special Thanksgiving meal, which traditionally consists of turkey, with the stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberries, and various types of pies for dessert.  In 1941 President […]

Can God Forget?

Is it possible for God to forget? Not according to the Scriptures. We live in a day and age when there is a demand to remember various things, especially passwords which security requires us to access personal information, and the like. Just about everyone forgets something from time to time. It may be the names of people, places or things. It could be as simple as where we misplaced our keys. And even  names of people we were recently introduced to. A youngster once said the three things he finds it hard to remember are names, faces and he can’t remember […]

Lordship of Jesus Christ

One of the foundational truths of the Christian faith is the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul declared, “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Jesus Christ as Lord we gladly own, now seated on His Father’s throne. Paul also makes it clear that because of the atoning death of Christ on the […]

“Very much, help me, God!”

My faith in Almighty God keeps me at peace in a topsy-turvy world. And to accept and respond to  challenges that confront me. Being a “born-again” Christian for far too many years to mention, I realize that there is a great distinction between truly knowing God in a very personal way, and just knowing about Him. It is easy to go through the motions of Church attendance, reciting prayers and creeds, singing psalms and hymns, and yet not worshipping God in spirit and truth as He requires. The Lord said: “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John […]

The Power of God for Salvation!

The topic for this blog is excerpted from the biblical text of Romans 1:16, which reads: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” The word gospel means “good news.” And the good news is what God has done for sinful mankind in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ, through His shed blood and death on the Cross and His resurrection from the tomb. The word salvation, in a biblical context, means deliverance and preservation from sin and its consequences. Salvation […]

Is peace possible when fears abound?

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1). King David, a man of triumphant faith, wrote this Psalm. In it he declares something of great importance to him as well as Christians today. David makes it known; “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid” The Lord Himself is the light. No need to be afraid of the dark. The Lord is the stronghold means a refuge from […]

The danger of materialism!

We are living in a very materialistic world where many people are money-oriented and things-oriented. These people are most concerned about material possessions. Some stop at nothing to obtain money and valuable things; while others would kill for money. Still others rather risk their own lives just to become wealthy. One may ask, when is enough, enough? The Bible warns: “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (1 Timothy 6:9). A snare is a trap for catching birds or animals. Once caught, there’s […]

Life is full of uncertainties!

It is clearly an undeniable fact that life is full of uncertainties. No one can accurately predict the future. It is quite natural and necessary to make plans for the future. And there is nothing wrong with that; otherwise chaos and confusion could result. However, there is absolutely no guarantee that those plans will actually materialize. Why? Because life at its very best can be most uncertain and disappointing. The question then is, how do we deal with it. One of the best ways to deal with uncertainty is to have hope. Hope is a strong reality of the Christian life and […]

This World isn’t the Christian’s Permanent Home

One of the many great and wonderful things about the Christian life is that this world is not the Christian’s permanent home. There are several proofs of this in the holy Scriptures. Heaven is the Christian’s “eternal” home. And Christians will go there either at their passing or at the return of Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus announced to His disciples that He would be going to prepare a place for them, and also that He would return and take them there. While comforting His disciples, Jesus told them: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In […]
