Psalm 100 is a beautiful Psalm with only 5 short verses that can be read in half a minute. This is a Psalm of joyful praise, gladness and thanksgiving. Psalm 100 is a call to all people to thankfully and joyfully worship the sovereign God of all the earth He created.
[1] Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! [2] Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! [3] Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. [4] Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! [5] For the LORD is good, His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:1-5).
The following hymn was inspired by Psalm 100.
[1] All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice,
Him serve with fear, His praise forthtell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.
[2] The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make.
We are His folk,He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.
[3] O enter then His gates with praise,
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his name always.
For it is seemly so to do.
[4] For why? The Lord our God is good;
His mercy is forever sure.
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.
—Scottish Psalter
The Book of Psalms was the hymnbook of the Old Testament Jews. Psalter is another name for the book of Psalms. King David wrote many of the Psalms.
Psalm 100 begins with a command to worship God.
[v. 1] Christians are Spirit-filled people who worship God in the splendor of holiness, ascribing to him the honor and glory He is worthy of, thereby proclaiming “Our God reigns!”
[v. 2] We serve God with an obedient and willing mind; accompanied with singing because “He put a new song in our mouths, and a song of praise to our God.” Singing is a wonderful expression of worship to God.
[v. 3] It is God who created us and we belong to Him. He is our divine Shepherd and we are the people of His pasture. We will worship and give thanks to Him forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.
[v. 4] We worship by entering God’s holy and divine presence with an attitude of gratitude filled with adoration and praise, acknowledging the great benefits of Salvation in Jesus Christ.
[v. 5] Goodness, love, and faithfulness are wonderful attributes of our heavenly Father. God has always and will always be good. His love is unchangeable and eternal. His faithfulness never deteriorates.
May we all adopt a spirit of sincere gratitude to God for His protection, goodness, mercy, kindness, and faithfulness every day of our lives. He says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you” (Isaiah 41:10).
