The Bible begins with God, and His greatness is revealed throughout the Bible. Everything we need to know about God is in the Bible. So great is God that the Bible does not begin with any arguments or debates about His existence.
God is the Supreme Creator of the universe, which He spoke into existence. The Bible says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3).
No human mind can fully comprehend the greatness of the Almighty. Job declared, “Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable” (Job 36:26). And again Job says, “God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend” (Job 37:5). Note: God “he does great things that man cannot comprehend.”
God made it known to Israel, “You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior” (Isaiah 43:10,11).
It is most noteworthy that God declares this about Himself,.“Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.” This means God has no equals, no rivals or challengers anywhere; although some would even dare to try. Therefore, God has absolute sovereignty over all things.
In his thanksgiving and prayer at the dedication of Solomon’s temple, King David said: “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all” (1 Chronicles 29:11).
“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised! The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high” (Psalms 113:3-5).
Here’s what the Scripture teaches about God’s absolute authority in heaven, on earth, and even in the seas. The psalmist expresses his confidence about the greatness of the Almighty. “For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps” (Psalm 135:5,6). Only God has that exclusive right to do what does and without the involvement of mortal man. “[God] made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them” (Psalm 146:6).
.
Psalm 48:1; 96:4; and 145:3 all declare, “Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised.” The repetition should not be considered as redundancy, but rather for emphasis. The greatness of God is awesome and amazing. Absolutely none to compare. In David’s son of praise to God, he said, “I will declare your greatness” (Psalm 145:6).
God is matchless and beyond compare in any way, shape or form. The psalmist says, “Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.” And then he asks the following questions that mortal man dare not answer. “For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Whom among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD?” (Psalm 89:5-6,8).
With full assurance and trust, Christians can worship and serve the only true and living God Almighty, who is majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious praises and deeds, doing wonders.
Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!
Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed”
(Revelation 15:3,4).
What is your concept of the greatness and power of God we’ve been talking about? The fact is that although God’s greatness surpasses human thinking and understanding, yet He can be known in a very personal way.
God’s desires that you come to know Him personally, because He is the answer to your searching heart. And you can come to know him through His Son, Jesus Christ who says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
You can do that right now. Here’s how. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9:,10).
You will be saved means knowing Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and spend eternity with Him in heaven. Wouldn’t you rather make this important decision and be assured of eternal life? May Christ grant it for His name sake. Amen.
